Knitted cotton fabrics

The knitted fabrics that Bo Weevil sells from stock are machine knitted, which is officially called tricotage. Knitted fabrics are generally stretchy and flexible, offering a high level of comfort and ease of wear. The construction and post-treatment of the different fabrics results in different properties. We provide more information about this below.

Single jersey

The Bo Weevil collection contains two groups of single jersey; the first is made of 100% organic cotton, and the second is with added elastane. Both jerseys are fine knitted fabrics that are very smooth, soft and slightly stretchy. 5% elastane has been added to the single jersey stretch. This is like a very thin, almost invisible thread twined with the cotton thread. The 'GOTS organic' certification allows up to 5% materials other than organic, and with the addition of a maximum of 5% elastane, these fabrics fall under the same certification under which all Bo Weevil fabrics fall.

Both the single jersey made of 100% cotton and the single jersey with 5% elastane are basic fabrics that can be used for many purposes. Bo Weevil offers both fabrics in 2 different weights and in various colours.

Interlock

Interlock is knitted on a double bed knitting machine and therefore the cloth consists of two layers that are interconnected, and the cloth looks the same on both sides. With interlock, the connection between the front and back cloth is crossed, which makes it less stretchy in width, or more stable. The fabric is sturdy, but also supple and soft and is often used for baby clothes, rompers, pajamas, T-shirts, yoga clothes, scarves.

Sweater fabric (or fleece)

Sweater is a theavier knitted fabric with a smooth front and a roughened back. The fabric is often described as fleece. This is actually a misnomer because real fleece is not knitted or woven, but is a layer of fibers that are given cohesion by the messy structure in which the fibers are laid out. The yellow household cloth is a well-known example, you can tear it apart. This is a lot more difficult with sweater fabric.

The fabric is supple and soft and because it is a knitted fabric, it is slightly elastic in the width direction. Sweater fabric is often used for hoodies, sweatshirts and sweatpants, for both adults and children. But also scarves, blankets and baby clothes. We sell this fabric in seven different colors; natural, off-white, optical white, potter's clay, dark blue, anthracite and black. With cuff fabric in matching colour.

Cuff fabric and borders

Cuff fabric is used for cuffs and borders for finishing panels, sleeves and trouser legs. We offer the collar fabric 'by the meter'. In this way, cuffs and borders can be cut to any desired size, which ensures optimal fabric use.

The cuff fabric is offered in 2 qualities; the variant in 100% cotton, and a variant with 5% elastane. Both are made of organic cotton and GOTS certified. The 'GOTS organic' certification allows up to 5% materials other than organic, and with the addition of a maximum of 5% elastane, the cuff fabric falls within the certification.

Both variants are knitted in a 1x1 rib. The fabrics can be combined well with sweater fabric and the heavier single jersey stretch. In addition to the collar fabric by the meter, we have a small range of loose collars with 5% elastane.

Polar

Polar fleece is the latest addition to the collection. This extremely soft, knitted fabric is heavily roughened on both sides and has a high level of cuddliness. It has the softness of plush toy animals. In addition to being used for toy animals, the fabric is also very suitable for linings or interlinings for coats, children's jackets, cardigans, scarves, mittens and baby blankets. Please allow for 5-10% shrinkage on the first wash.

Knitted terry cloth

The knitted terry cloth has loops on one side and is smooth on the other side. The loops make it highly absorbent. The loops also provide volume and retain heat. The fabric is suitable for linings of jackets, cardigans, sweaters, sweatpants, but is also widely used for mattress fitted sheets for both adults and children. Fitted sheets made of knitted terry cloth have a warmer effect than fitted sheets made of poplin and are therefore very suitable for winter.

Nicky velour

Velour or nicky velour is a very soft, voluminous, knitted fabric. This cloth originally had loops on one side, just like knitted terry cloth. With velour, the tops of the loops are shaved off. After cutting off the loops, a very soft fabric remains, as soft as the skin of an animal fur. This fabric is suitable for women's, men's and children's outerwear such as cardigans, sweaters, training jackets and trousers, and also for blankets, scarves and of course plush toys.
